Creating News Articles

18th of October, 2023

The notes below might help you with ‘best practice’ on how to add a news article, and on making your news articles compliant with WCAG 2.1/2.2 Accessibility guidelines.

Images

We strongly recommend upload an image to create interest for the user to be attracted to read your news. Please note there is a maximum file size of 8MB

Please do not upload an image that has text written on it, a visually impaired person will not be able to read the text on the image. They could miss vital information, and it could render the whole news article useless and the webpage will not meet the WCAG 2.1/2.2 Accessibility guidelines.

Please do not use an image from Google, photographs, illustrations, and other images will generally be protected by copyright as artistic works. This means that a user will usually need the permission of the copyright owner(s) if they want to perform certain acts, such as copying the image or sharing it on the internet.

Easy Web Sites can supply you with a bank of images, that should cover most situations. These have been purchased by us and we have a licence to use them on websites built by us. If you would like a copy of these images email [email protected].

Headings (we used 'heading 3' to create this effect)

Create sub headings to break up your text. This will organise your content into a format that's easy to read. In addition to general structure and readability, heading tags help improve accessibility for people who can't easily read screens.

Reduce the amount of formatting you use, for example, reduce the use of Bold, Italics and ALL CAPS as it can affect accessibility and readability.
